On March 18, 2025, in Ho Chi Minh City, the training course “Capacity Building on ESCO Business for Energy Service Companies” under the VSUEE Project was held.
Following the “Capacity Building on ESCO Business for Energy Service Companies” training course in Hanoi, the same course was organized in Ho Chi Minh City on March 18, 2025, as part of the “Vietnam Scaling Up Energy Efficiency” (VSUEE) project. The training aimed to enhance the capacity of energy service companies (ESCOs) in developing, implementing, and managing energy efficiency projects, contributing to the growth of the ESCO market in Vietnam.

Mr. Mai Văn Huyên, Director of the Green Development Center (Consulting Unit for the training course), introduced the training program.
Globally, the Energy Service Company (ESCO) model has been successfully implemented in many countries, playing a key role in promoting energy savings, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, optimizing operational costs for businesses, and fostering sustainable development. For example, in the United States, ESCO has thrived with large projects in the industrial and commercial sectors, supported by numerous government incentives. In Europe, several organizations have been established to support ESCO, driving energy efficiency projects in the industrial and public building sectors. Notably, China is the largest ESCO market in the world, accounting for about 60% of the global ESCO market. The development of the ESCO model in China has been rapid, especially since the government began promoting energy savings and emission reduction policies.
In Vietnam, the ESCO model is increasingly attracting attention due to the growing demand for energy savings, government incentives, and the sustainable development trends of businesses. Through this training, the project aims to further promote ESCO models in the Southern region in particular and across the country in general to realize the goals of sustainable development, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and protecting the environment.

Energy experts and instructors from the Project’s consulting unit and Bách Khoa University shared the comprehensive training content throughout the course.
The training program lasted for three days, from March 18 to March 20, 2025, covering key topics including:(i) Enhancing capacity for identifying and developing energy-saving projects; (ii) Energy audits and financial analysis for energy efficiency projects; (iii) Introduction and application of Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems; and (iv) Marketing strategies and business strategies for Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) and Energy Efficiency Service Providers (EESPs).

Participants from Promotion Centers, energy service companies, and energy-efficient equipment suppliers joined the training course.
During the training, participants had the chance to examine and evaluate successful ESCO models from around the world, gaining practical insights and strategies for adapting them to Vietnam. Additionally, competency assessment tests were designed to help participants systematize their knowledge, enhance practical skills, and apply them in real-world scenarios.
| The “Viet Nam Scaling Up Energy Efficiency” (VSUEE) project, funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), is implemented by the World Bank (WB) and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Main goal of the project: To promote energy-saving and energy-efficient practices in the industrial sector of Vietnam, contributing to the national energy-saving targets, ensuring energy security, and fulfilling the tasks and goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and addressing climate change. The VSUEE project plays a crucial role in promoting green industrial development, optimizing energy costs, and supporting Vietnam in achieving its sustainable development goals. |
